    About Solan

    Solan Distt. is gateway of Himachal Pradesh at the industrial township of Parwanu at National Highway.  It is situated at 76.42°to 77.20°longitude and 30.30°to 31.15°latitude at the height of 300 to 3000 meters from the mean sea level . The area of Solan Distt 1936 Sq. K.M. which 3.5 % of Tehsil geographical area of the state.There are 198 Panchayats covering  2388 villages.This district was established on the Ist Sept. 1972 by merging areas of old Shimla and Mahasu Distt. 

    It comprises of Solan, Nalagarh, Arki, Kandaghat Sub Division Solan and Arki Tehsils are from old Himachal area while Nalagarh & Kandaghat Tehsils have been transferred from Punjab State .  In the north, it is Shimla Distt. at the South Punjab & Haryana States ,while at the east  side is Sirmour distt. and distt. Bilaspur is at  the west of it.  Solan the headquarter of the Distt. is known as Mushroom city of India. Solan Distt. is richer in vegetable crops like tomatoes, ginger, cabbage, cauliflower, peas and fruit like apricot, plum, peach pear and walnut.  Its kiwi fruit is famous all over . Agriculture is the main occupation of the small and margined farmers and maize, wheat, paddy and Barley are also grown.

    The Winter prevails from October to March, spring in April, Summer from May to August and transition season from  September to November. The Minimum temperature in the winter goes to 4° C and rises to maximum 26° C in summer. There are two seasons of rainfall during the year one from December to March, associated with the passage of western disturbances and the other which is the main one, extending from middle of June till middle of September caused by the south west monsoons.  Some rain is also received in the post monsoon month of October. July and August are the wettest months.
